After Your Permanent Onlay

An onlay covers the chewing surface of your tooth — it's a custom-fit, durable restoration that protects the tooth without the full coverage of a crown. The cement has now fully set.

Quick reference

  • Wait until the numbness wears off before eating.
  • For 24 hours: skip very sticky foods (toffee, caramel, gum) and very hard foods (nuts, hard candies).
  • Some mild cold or pressure sensitivity for a few days is normal.
  • Brush and floss the tooth normally — including the gumline around the onlay.
  • If the bite feels uneven or 'high', call us so we can adjust it.
Call us if you have concerns. Call us at 519-944-5757 if the onlay feels loose, sensitivity is sharp or worsens after a week, or your bite doesn't feel right.
