A dental implant is built to last — but only if you treat it like a natural tooth and clean around it daily. The gum and bone around the implant need just as much attention as the crown on top.
Quick reference
- Brush around the implant twice a day with a soft brush — the implant crown itself won't decay, but the gums and bone around it can become inflamed.
- Floss daily, or use a floss specifically made for implants, an interdental brush, or a water flosser to clean beneath and around the crown.
- Avoid biting hard objects (ice, pens, fingernails) — they can chip the crown or stress the implant.
- Keep your six-month hygiene visits. We use special instruments that won't scratch the implant surface.
- Smoking significantly increases the risk of implant problems — if you smoke, please tell us so we can plan extra check-ins.
