After Your Crown

Your tooth has been prepared and a custom-fit crown has been bonded in place. The crown is strong and built to last for many years — here's how to take care of it in the first 24 hours and beyond.

Quick reference

  • Wait until the numbness fully wears off before eating.
  • For 24 hours: avoid very sticky foods (toffee, gum) and very hard foods (nuts, ice).
  • Mild gum tenderness around the crown for a few days is normal.
  • Brush and floss the crown like a natural tooth. When flossing, slide the floss out the side rather than pulling it straight up.
  • If the bite feels off after the numbness wears off, call us so we can adjust it.
Call us if you have concerns. Call us at 519-944-5757 if the crown feels loose, you notice sharp temperature sensitivity, or your bite doesn't feel right.
