A bone graft was placed today to rebuild bone where it was missing — this prepares the site for a future implant or supports an area around your existing teeth. The grafted material is fragile in the first few weeks, so a gentle approach matters.
Quick reference
- Bite firmly on the gauze for 30–45 minutes. Some pinkish saliva for a day is normal.
- DO NOT rinse, spit, suck through a straw, or smoke for at least 24 hours — pressure can dislodge the graft.
- You may notice tiny granules in your mouth in the first few days. This is normal — not all the graft material will stay in place.
- Cold pack for the first day; warm salt-water rinses from day 2 onward.
- Eat soft, lukewarm foods for the first 24–48 hours. Avoid pressing food directly on the graft site.
- Take any prescribed antibiotic exactly as directed — finish the full course.
- Brush your other teeth carefully; avoid the surgical site for a few days, then brush gently around it.
